Studying abroad in Peru for Winter Term! Studying abroad pushed me out of my comfort zone in all the best ways. I got to travel all across the country from the coast to Machu Picchu and got to experience a culture entirely different from my own. The country is beautiful and Machu Picchu the most incredible place I've ever been but the most memorable part of the experience was interacting with the people. Hearing about their lives, I began to realize that the world I knew was just a tiny fraction of the planet.
The Festival of Holiday Lights because it really brings the holiday spirit to campus. The end of the semester is a stressful time with finals coming up but this tradition allows everyone to take a break, enjoy a cup of hot chocolate and watch the campus turn into a winter wonderland. Especially my first year, this tradition helped make Elon feel like home.
Elon offers an experience that I know I couldn't get at any other university. The study abroad opportunities are some of the best in the nation, the research students get to participate in allow them to experience so much more than sending surveys, and the internships almost all students at Elon complete give them the connections and experience to excel after graduation. Our ELR's (Elon Learning Requirements) are experiences that I think every undergraduate student should have, yet very few places offer. All of those things made Elon stand out but what truly made me choose Elon was the feeling of community on campus. Somehow I knew that I could enter Elon knowing no one and end up with a family, and that's exactly what happened.
