My favorite Elon Tradition is the Festival of Holiday Lights. Each year before the close of the Fall semester, Elon glimmers with lights weaved among the oak trees and with luminaries lining the walkways. With music, hot chocolate, and the opportunity to learn about holiday celebrations of other faiths, it’s the perfect time to build a community grounded in gratitude and joy.
I chose Elon because not only did it check all my boxes, but it exceeded my expectations in the beauty of the campus, academic support, and the welcoming nature of every person I met on my first tour. I desired the value of a small classroom size that encourages discussions and allows for a real connection with professors. Unique to other schools, Elon stood out for the support it gives students, whether it be in mentorship, research, or studying abroad. I knew I wanted all of these things and the chance to grow beyond my comfort zone, and Elon is the place where it’s becoming a reality.
My most memorable Elon experience was my very first move in day. It was a day full of excitement and a symbolic moment of stepping into a new chapter of growth and independence. In meeting my roommate, girls on my hall, and my RA, I unknowingly met my best friends for years to come!
