My most memorable and rewarding Elon experience has been the undertaking of my three-year undergraduate research project, supported by the Elon College Fellows program. It wasn't until I came to Elon that I was told I could pursue the things I love academically--that I could be supported and encouraged by those around me to pursue the things I love academically. My undergraduate research experience has pushed me to develop as both a scholar and a person.
After moving from NY to NC during high school, I spent four years feeling like I didn't belong. Nowhere felt like home--that is, until I stepped foot on Elon's campus. For the first time in such a long time I felt that I belonged, and more importantly that I was needed. The feeling of home in the unlikeliest of places was the sign I had found what I'd been seeking for four long years.
First year convocation! The metaphor of transforming from an acorn to an oak--from a first year to a senior--is both promising and moving. First year convocation reminds us all that no matter what path we choose to pursue during our time at Elon, everything that is necessary for growth is already inside of us.
