Tour Guides and Fall '24 Guide at Elon University

When I started the college search process, the only thing that I knew I wanted was a school with small classes. This led to me research over 120 colleges and tour 26 schools across the country, from Malibu, to the heart of Philadelphia, to the far reaches of upstate New York. Among all of those schools, no school provides all of the opportunities that Elon does, such as the vast array of majors along with the flexibility in course requirements. Moreover, Elon is a place that perfectly mixes the positive elements of big and small schools. It has small classes, personal attention, and a close community feel. It’s a place where President Book can meet my mom briefly once and recognize and remember her days later. However, the main reason I chose Elon is because it knows and values its students above all else. This can be seen through late night at Lakeside or keeping the gym open until 11:00 pm on weekdays and the library open all night. Elon truly is a place that appreciates its students and puts us first. A couple weeks ago my Business professor sent me an email just to check in and thank me for my class participation. This caring and close connection, this investment from my teachers, and the feeling of community here are all reasons I chose to come to Elon. I know I made the perfect choice for myself, and I’m proud to be a Phoenix.
My most memorable Elon experience was one night in September, my friends and I all got together one night to watch a horror movie. However, that ended up being 3 horror movies and a couple comedy movies before all 6 of us ended up falling asleep on the floor. It wasn't a crazy night but it is a night that was really special for me. It is a part of why I like Elon so much, that all of us, coming from different places, with different interests, who know each other because of how small the campus is, all could get together and have fun.
My favorite Elon Tradition is the call to honor. During orientation week, all of the Freshman go to the Alumni gym and we hear about the four main ways in which we are expected to uphold the honor code. Then we go outside and we all sign our names. For me, this felt like this was the moment I officially became a college student. I was putting down my name and saying that I was agreeing to be a part of this community and by asking me to sign my name, Elon was telling me that they wanted me to be a part of the community.
