I've worked move in day every year as a Residence Life student staff member and each year I love being right in the middle of all the excitement. First-year move in day is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and I love being there to ease the nerves of the students and parents and share my experience. It's always a day that's filled with so much emotion and excitement and I love being around so much energy.
The Turning 21 Dinner where every Elon student invites a faculty or staff mentor to a University hosted formal dinner during the term when they turn 21. I love this tradition because it's such a symbolic moment when the school acknowledges your personal transition into full adulthood and Elon goes out of their way to make it a really special and memorable experience. Faculty and staff also see it as a big honor to be invited, which I love because it shows how much they want to actually make an impact in the lives of their students. It just reminds you that you are supported and cared about even when you're away from home.
There are a few reasons I chose Elon. First of all, it honestly just felt like home. As soon as I stepped on campus, I felt like I would be challenged to step outside of my comfort zone yet supported and encouraged to pursue my passions by my peers and mentors. I could see myself going out for and obtaining leadership positions and making close friends at Elon. Secondly, it was the only school that I visited where I didn't feel like a number or a statistic. The admissions team made me feel valued as a real person and went above and beyond to make my visit memorable. Thirdly, Elon was the only school that had both strong academic programs that I was interested in and the community I was looking for. I wanted to be at a mid-sized liberal arts school with green grass quads, matching brick buildings, and professors that knew my name, but I also knew I wanted to leave college with a practical skill set and hands-on experience in the field of communications. Elon was the only school that could offer both of those experiences to me.
