I chose Elon for a number of reasons. First, I knew Elon was going to offer me the support I needed. Having dyslexia meant that I needed to be able to communicate openly with my professors, thus, having smaller class sizes and access to a wide variety of academic resources would allow me the opportunity to do so. Being at a Liberal Arts institution also helped ease my stress as an undecided major by allowing me to explore my interests within a diverse curriculum. Lastly, I choose Elon because of its close-knit community, full of engaged and passionate students and faculty, which was made evident as soon as I stepped onto campus.
The most memorable experience I have had thus far was the first time I covered a men's basketball game at Schar Stadium as a working sports photographer for ENN. It was a great game against one of Elon’s rivals and fans had crowded the stadium seats, with full Elon spirit on display. Not only did I get to capture the action of the game, but I was fully immersed and connected to the Elon community that night. As an undecided major with an interest in communications, this was my first real taste of professional job experience that challenged my creativity, and pushed me outside my concert zone.
My favorite Elon tradition is by far the Festivals of Lights and Luminaries. I get to enjoy hot cider with my friends as we walk through the beautifully lit paths in the Historic Neighborhood. Students, faculty/staff, and members from the surrounding community all gather to enjoy the festivities; a truly unique experience. And it's always a fun challenge to try and find the luminary with your name on it!
